January assessment: learner response

WWW: This is an important lesson in revision and exam technique that will help you in future exams... you cannot leave questions blank like this.

EBI: This paper is 34 marks. You left questions totalling 28 marks blank. You have to try and write answers. Revising and learning the CSPs will massively help with this.

LR: See blog.

Q1: 1 mark

Q3: 0 mark

Q2: 0 mark i think i missed out on a mark beecause in the advert it showed the ladys arm so i thought it was physical

3) Oppositional Reading-

• Women may be insulted by the lack of femininity in the advert or find the

image derogatory. They may think that the woman does not promote

• Women would not be able to relate to the muscular physique of the

woman in the image and this would put them off taking a job.

Preferred Reading -

• Women are portrayed in a subversive / non-conventional way as their

strength and independence is highlighted by the image (pose / pride in

facial expression etc.)

• The bicep has connotations of masculinity and the clenched fist suggests

being tough and strong.

4) means reduced costs and more control along the manufacturing or distribution process

5)

1. I, Daniel Blake is a low-budget British film made for £2m by veteran independent filmmaker Ken

Loach.

2. In contrast, Marvel’s Black Widow arguably disappointed in purely box office terms despite making a

huge amount more money than I, Daniel Blake.

3. However, it could be argued that low-budget films such as

Ken Loach’s I, Daniel Blake are not attempting to compete with Disney and Marvel and instead are

trying to exist on their own terms.

4. The $389m worldwide box office figure will have been helped slightly by the Disney+

premium streaming release but ultimately will have fallen a long way short of the billion dollar

expectations of parent company Disney.

5.Hollywood blockbusters and low-budget independent films are so different it is

difficult to believe they are part of the same industry.
